In most scam stories, the girl usually will be much younger than the man. The man almost certainly gets excited by the thought of an attractive young woman taking interest in him, and out the window goes his thinking process.

After a few emails the woman claims to be madly in love with the man. She asks to join or visit him in his country. However there is a problem. She does not have money for visa and/or air ticket. He is asked to send her money by some irreversible method such as wire transfer.

What the guileless gentleman does not know is that he might not even be communicating with a woman. It could be a man, usually a member of a scam ring. Needless to say, he ends up losing his money, with a bruised ego to go with it.

Other ways of getting money out of victims include faking a family “tragedy”, for English lessons, for internet connection, the list goes on.

Russian dating scams are not always perpetrated by Russians, however. Back in 2004, an American man named Robert McCoy was in the news. He and his wife were both arrested and tried after defrauding his fellow citizens of thousands of dollars in a Russian bride scam. Russian women often associate different messages with certain colors of flowers. Even numbers are taken to funerals and may be seen as inappropriate for the meeting of your bride.

I am going to tell you about a holiday that is considered to be the most romantic time of the year in Russia and Ukraine- the 8th of March or International Women’s Day, funny enough, it seems like it is celebrated only in FSU countries! You perfectly know that gifts and other signs of attention are extremely important in relationship, of course it is important to make your sweet heart feel wanted and loved every day, but there are several days in the year that are special!

Couple of words about where it came from. Maybe you will be surprised to hear that it all started early spring 1857, when the female workers of textile industry in New York have marched the Manhattan. They were demanding higher salaries, better work traditions and equal rights for women. Of course the demonstration was dispersed, but it made lots of noise.

Some 50 years after that during the Conference of Socialistic Women of the World in Copenhagen the day of 8th March was named the International Women’s Day. In Russia it became a custom to celebrate this holiday since 1913.

It is also sometimes called the holiday of spring. The gifts and flowers are given to all the women you know on that day. To your loved ones, mothers, sisters, colleagues etc. Many companies throw parties on that day and everybody is in great mood. In married couples men often do all the home chores on that day and try to make the life of their wives easy and pleasant.

One can say that the 8th of March combines St. Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, I would agree on that, and this is what makes it really big, there is nobody left aside, everybody is either getting a gift or giving it! If you are dating a Russian or Ukrainian girl you must give her a gift on that day, even something little will please her, just make her feel special on that day. Prepare a breakfast or send her a beautiful postcard. You know that Russian girls love when men are romantic, make her feel “off the planet” with you!

Well, for one almost all of them are:

What does that tell you? That all young, beautiful women without children are bad?

No. It tells you that if you had picked a woman who is average looking in appearance, over thirty-five years of age, or who has children, there is virtually no chance that she is a scam artist or a gold-digger.

Men ask, “How can I be sure that she is honest in her intentions?” I will repeat again for those who didn’t hear me the first time:

If a Russian woman is average looking in appearance, over thirty five years of age, or has children there is almost no chance that she will be trying to scam money out of you or that she is a gold-digger only interested in your money or getting to America.

Why? Because these women have virtually no chance of getting married in their own country.

They want to meet a foreign man to get married and have a happy family life. They see the bigger picture. They aren’t looking to make a few extra bucks, like a scam artist is. They want to change their whole life.

They aren’t going to risk their own and their children’s welfare to ‘get to America.’ They have no idea what American life is really like. There is a lot of fear in going someplace unknown.

Many of these women have not been far from their own hometown. The vast majority of Russians live and die within ten miles of where they are born. They aren’t going to risk going to America unless they really trust you.

That is as simple as it gets.

Will any of you listen to me, probably not? Because you want the young, beautiful women without children.

Is that wrong? No, but it sets you up to be taken advantage of by the list of women you see above.

Does that mean that all women who are beautiful, young, and without children are bad?

Of course not! It means you have to use discretion.

The vast majority of women on the websites want to get married. That is their motivation. Most of them are not interested in uprooting their entire life in order to ‘get to America.’

Scammers often send the same letter, except for some variation in the start and end of the letter. This helps them save time in composing mails to every man they get to attract from dating websites. Most often, they will also write emails about sex – before they will squeeze everything you have.

6. If your woman is suggesting some travel agencies where you can pay for the visa, passport and other travel documents, you may want to check out if the travel agency is registered. Aside from asking money for the fare or visa, scammers may also ask money to pay for an outstanding loan, or for a relative who is ill, or she may also asks for gadgets like cell phone.

Keep in mind that scammers can even spend months in communicating with you without giving you any hint that he is a scammer. When you eventually fall for her, it is now that she starts to ask money from you. Keep in mind also that scammers may send you pictures in your frequent exchange of emails.

Some may also get into identity theft to have a face and a name to be a front of their scams and fraudulent activities. With this, it is important to be aware and be alert if you are dealing with an online dating scam.
